so i took it in, i upped the RAM and it's been my constant reliable companion despite spending 2 years of its life collecting dust under a bed.

My last Windows machine was a Dell Inspiron 8200 that I got free from a friend that was going to throw it in the garbage because she had a 4,000 dollar Alienware laptop to play with. My first computer was a big hulking Compaq Presario. I too have been a Windows user for most of my life. the level of service that i got at genius bar left much to be desired compared to my dealership. compaing a MB to a luxury car? i'd tell you that i've had problems w/ my old audi. and the level of satisfaction is far less than what i've experienced before. While i don't know the cost of making a MB, the ownership cost has exceeded what i expected. i just rolled my eyes when he made that statement. he said he never had any popups on the mac ever since he swtiched from hp. my roommie used to brag about how his PB's better than my dell/acer. os x is pretty, but i do prefer the fact that i can costomize my own theme on windoze w/o another software. os x? it really depends on how you use your computer. the pretty growing apple logo is a chick (or even guy) magnet, however. not to mention i've spent over $300 for applecare and procare (i never felt the need to get any kind of extended warranty on my previous computers). from QC, recurring RSD after repair, poor services at genius bar, damages due to repair, etc. My MB? too many troubles for the 1st 3-4 mons of ownership. it'd still be working if i didn't crack the lcd. design was superb at its time - ~1" thin and made out of metal. a letter to confirm my ownership was sent to me within 1 wk.Īnother example is my broken PII 350 acer laptop. i got to talk to a live person within 5-10 mins. i had only called dell support once (back in 97/98) to transfer ownership from my parent to me. i never had any viruses or spyware (firefox, thunderbird + some other progams had/have protected my dell quite well).

(my fault, cos i installed another party's driver so that i could use the apple wireless keyboard). never had a major problem w/ the dell, except it failed to recognize my BT dongle after i unplugged it. I'm typing right now on my was-retired PII 450 dell since my MB is w/ apple for recurring RSD. i thought i should post and share my $0.02. I see most of you like to compare apple and dell and think that apple is superior.
